Biosketch

Lucia Albano conducts her scientific work in the field of inherited metabolic diseases and newborn screening. She holds a degree in Biological Sciences, specializing in Clinical Biochemistry, from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Naples "Federico II." She has gained extensive experience in early diagnosis through the analysis of biochemical markers on DBS using advanced technologies such as tandem mass spectrometry.

Since 2012, she has worked in the Extended Newborn Screening group, and since 2022, she has been one of the technical coordinators at  the CEINGE Laboratory of the Regional Center for Newborn Screening (Campania Region), headed by Professor Margherita Ruoppolo..

She contributes to the development, validation, and optimization of analytical protocols for the early identification of inherited metabolic diseases. She has actively participated in national multicenter projects, focusing on aspects such as defining diagnostic cutoffs and evaluating screening program performance.

Author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, she has collaborated with Italian research groups. Her work integrates laboratory and epidemiological expertise, with a particular focus on the impact of screening programs on public health.
