Cryopreservation

Cryopreservation Facility's mission at CEINGE-Biotecnologie Avanzate Franco Salvatore is to enable users to preserve various types of biological samples at low temperatures (-80°C and -196°C), including cell pellets, liquid or solid biopsies, different types of biological fluid, and mononuclear cells.

The Cryopreservation Facility provides support for research and diagnostics, as well as for other CEINGE facilities, and works with third parties through ad hoc commercial agreements.

The service covers the entire sample management chain, from acceptance to freezing and long-term stability, and uses state-of-the-art computerized systems and equipment.

The facility's procedures are ISO 9001/2015 certified and uses cutting-edge technologies to ensure optimal storage conditions for biological material and maximum operator safety.

EQUIPMENT

CRYOGENIC CHAMBER

The facility has a fully automated cryogenic room with nine cryobiological containers for storing samples in liquid nitrogen. These containers have a total capacity of around 200,000 vials. It is equipped with an environmental safety system that continuously monitors the partial pressure of oxygen, ensuring maximum operator safety.

EXTERNAL TANK

The entire liquid nitrogen supply system is supervised by a computerized system and managed automatically 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It starts from an external 5,000-litre tank and reaches the individual cryobiological containers via an insulated vacuum distribution line

DEEP FREEZERS -80°C

The facility also has state-of-the-art ultra-low temperature freezers for storing samples requiring a temperature of -80°C. These freezers are equipped with an integrated digital monitoring system and are connected via specific probes to a Wi-Fi system. This allows any faults or anomalies to be reported remotely

Centralised alarm systems allow for quick intervention in the event of faults or anomalies.

SERVICES

The CEINGE Cryopreservation Facility offers the following services:

  1. Storage of cryopreserved biological samples in liquid nitrogen;
    1. Isolation and cryopreservation of cell pellets for nucleic acid extraction.
    2. The isolation and cryopreservation of fresh mononuclear cells obtained from peripheral blood, bone marrow and/or tissue.
    3. Supporting the collection, transportation and cryopreservation of biopsy samples.
    4. Preparing and shipping cryopreserved samples.
