The core research activity is focused on investigating the functional mechanisms underlying key biological processes in animal species of veterinary interest (both companion and production animals). The primary objective is to bridge basic research with pathophysiological insights and clinical applications, with a strong emphasis on animal health and welfare, as well as the sustainability of livestock production.
Aquaporin (AQP) role in diffent body districts of domestic animal species; MSCs charactrization in domestic animal species - (2013–Present);
Investigating the multifaceted roles of Aquaporins across different biomedical fields: 1. Gastrointestinal Physiology: Examining AQP expression in the gut of the buffalo calf in relation to colostrum intake; 2. Reproductive Pathophysiology: Evaluating AQPs in the canine male reproductive tract, focusing on mechanisms linked to infertility and oncogenesis; 3. Regenerative Medicine: Exploring AQP involvement in human and animal mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to assess their therapeutic potential.
Platelet Characterization & Neonatal Immunology in ruminants (2000–2012)
Veterinary Hematology: Functional and molecular characterization of platelets from domestic animal species with particolar interest for translational medicine (efficacy of platelet-rich derivatives in canine tissue repair and wound healing mechanisms).
Neonatal Immunology: Assessing enzymatic activities in colostrum and their critical impact on the passive immunization process in newborn ruminants.
