Hematological Oncology LAB
The laboratory of Hematological Oncology is involved in the molecular typing of genetic alterations of neoplasia of the hematopoietic system, and in the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the neoplastic transformation of hematopoietic cells.
In particular, in the field of Hematology Oncology, is performed the genetic typing of acute and chronic leukemias (acute lymphatic adult B, B acute lymphocytic child, acute T lymphocytic, acute myeloid leukemia, acute promyelocytic, chronic myeloid) and myeloproliferative syndromes Philadelphia negative (polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, idiopathic myelofibrosis and hypereosinophilic syndrome).
The activity carried out in the laboratory, which represents one of the Italian reference centers of the Labnet GIMEMA networks for chronic myeloid leukemia (Labnet CML) and for acute myeloid leukemia (Labnet AML), also concerns the development and validation of use , in the clinical field, of new protocols and molecular methodologies aimed at identifying panels of molecular markers specific to hematological malignancies, to the quantitative evaluation of the aforementioned markers during therapy and to the definition of criteria for the prognostic stratification of patients in risk categories based on the kinetics of reduction of the residual neoplastic mass.
