Theoretical and Practical Summer School in Proteomics and Metabolomics

Following the success of the previous editions in 2020 and 2022, the Italian Proteomics Association (ItPA), represented by its Board and its acting President, Prof. Andrea Urbani, is launching a new Advanced Training initiative: a theoretical and practical Summer School in Proteomics and Metabolomics.

The Omics Lab: A Practical School in Proteomics and Metabolomics will take place at CEINGE from 7 to 9 September 2026 and will conclude with the 20th International Congress of the Italian Proteomics Society (ItPA), also hosted at CEINGE on 10–11 September, dedicated to the theme Decoding Biological Complexity: Integrated Proteo-Metabolomics in Systems Biology.

The Summer School is intended for young Italian researchers who are members of ItPA, with priority access for PhD students, research fellows, RTDA/RTT (non‑permanent positions), medical residents, and, if places remain available, Master’s graduates. Participation is limited to a maximum of 16 attendees, to ensure optimal engagement during theoretical lectures, hands‑on laboratory sessions, and activities in the computer classroom.

The training program spans three days, from Monday 7 September at 14:00 to Wednesday 9 September 2026 at 18:00. Theoretical lectures will be delivered by leading experts in the main applications of proteomics and metabolomics, providing an overview of the state of the art in Omics Sciences and introducing the content of the practical sessions. Hands‑on activities will include sample treatment and preparation, and LC‑MS/MS mass spectrometry analysis. Laboratory sessions—guided by tutors selected among CEINGE technicians and researchers and using the instrumentation available at the Proteomics Facility—will take place throughout Tuesday 8 September. Wednesday 9 September will be dedicated to data analysis from real samples and bioinformatics lectures with interactive exercises.
